My Best Friend's Wedding
I think this movie falls in the category of VHS's your mom has lying around. We probably got it from some movie membership thing- a vague relic of the 90s where if you filled a form out and sent it in the mail you got a certain amount of movies YOU HAD TO KEEP PERMANENTLY sent to your house on perhaps a monthly basis.
I'm not sure how my parents chose their VHS collection being immigrants from the Philippines. One time my mom brought "American Pie" home because one of her friends said it was a nice movie- probably tangential to the experience where we went to Hooters in our Sunday clothes after church because someone said it was a nice restaurant. I digress...
Right. This movie stars Julia Roberts who is a very attractive but delusional woman who gets invited to- you guessed it- her best friend, Michael's wedding. Michael is marrying Cameron Diaz, or Kimmy, who is cute but supposedly dumb and not good enough per Julia. Julia Roberts thinks her and Michael could have been a thing, but never were a thing probably because of some waffling on her part. They did have "one hot night" though so obviously they should be together forever. I think the wedding is in Chicago
She invites her hot friend, George, along who charms the fellow lady wedding goers. He has a British accent, which is always a big hit and at one point he sings a song and a bunch of ladies sing along.."I say a little prayer for you," or something like that.
Julia Roberts tries to do some sabotage during the wedding week like make Kimmy sing karaoke even though her voice is terrible (I guess that's a deal breaker?). She also kisses Michael which is a big no no and he's not actually into it. I think Cameron Diaz and her have a big confrontation in the bathroom and maybe the wedding gets called off temporarily. Eventually, Julia Roberts probably realizes she is a terrible person and has to fix it and say sorry to everyone. I say this because there is a wedding at the end and somehow her scum ass still gets to go to it. There are also hints that George and her will fall in love instead, which is bully for her but not so much George.
