Bicentennial Man
My dad just recently retired from American Airlines, which has always lead to some interesting perks. In the earlier years- if you recall- all movies were shown on a big screen at the very front of all the aisles or on overhead TV's every other aisle. One of the perks of being an employee was taking home these unmarked VHS tapes with the movie du jour.
We had no cable so I've watched lots of these VHS tapes and this includes Bicentennial Man. It was one of the longer ones or seemed that way because the title implies two whole freaking centuries.
This movie stars Robin Williams who plays a robot slave, Andy I want to say, for a rich family. Andy is pretty much like Data from Star Trek, who strives to be human.
Over the years he slowly transforms in appearance from a tin-man-looking dude to someone who's obtained enough human bits to look like Robin Williams. I think eventually he also falls in love and gets married to human. It inspires him to do something humans don't actually want, which is throw away being a cool immortal robot and age- the technology got good enough I guess to make that a thing. It ends with him pulling the plug on himself and dying alongside his wife which is cute and sad.
