Mean Girls

I had to watch this in theology class in Catholic School because Father Joe, the most charming Ethiopian priest in the world,  believed it taught us the lesson to "not be a bitch!"- imagine his forefinger waggling.

Here's a super cute Catholic School story. In his class we used to have to stand in a circle and hold hands while chanting "UP UP JESUS"- while jumping- then stomping on the ground  yelling "DOWN DOWN SATAN". We would also chant other adorable phrases like "John Paul II, We love you!"

Anywho this was his theology class movie of choice. He totally despised Thirteen because of the "LESBIANS!" and also gave us very stern warnings about Ouija boards on Halloween.

Mean Girls is about Cady Heron, played by not-meth-head Lindsay Lohan, goes to a new school in a rich Chicago suburb. She's lived in Africa her whole life so has no real social skills and therefore has to make friends with emo/ scene kids, Janice and Damien. They're also not that great but they convince her it would be a really fun time infiltrating the "Plastics" which are just some semi-pretty girls who are rich but have no personality. I'm fairly sure no one who has ever gone to high school ever dressed like them because why?

As an aside, I used to have a grade school friend named Cathy who insisted on being called Cady. I always thought that was a bullshit name, but this movie has convinced me it's probably real.

As the movie progresses, Cady motivated by a hot boy, terrible catty girl betrayal, and the power of telling people what to do becomes a "Plastic" and therefore the monster she was trying to take down. She does terrible things like not joining the Math Club run by Tina Fey which is too bad because that's my dream.

Everything comes crashing down when the Burn Book full of mean comments about her classmates (Think Donald Trump's Twitter) is shown to the principal. Everybody in high school has to go to the equivalent of an HR training and the head Plastic, Regina George, not really giving a shit walks out and gets hit by a bus.

This movie shows you getting hit by a bus really hits the reset button for social norms. It's also what Catholic School has taught me.
