Captain America- the first one

Long ago before Marvel decided to make a hellscape of convoluted plots full of timey-wimey nonsense, there was Captain America. I agreed to watch it in a movie theater to it to spend more time with this hot young thing I was dating, aka my current husband.

Captain America takes place during The Great War and it starts with the Cap'n being a little runt named Steve Rogers. Although he is small of stature, he is so scrappy and patriotic and really wants to get'em Nazis. He tries to join the army but they're all a bunch of mean jocks and don't let him in. Luckily a scientist person, pulls him into an alley and essentially says "You wanna do some drugs?"

I remember being really upset at this movie because it's essentially about a man not accepting his body and practicing self-love. Instead he gets souped up on a bunch of steroids and becomes an American hero. What kind of message is that?! Other than that, I forget who he's fighting besides the Nazis. I think he meets Peg, a really cute lady from the British side and he fights alongside his pal, Bucky Barnes who liked him even when he was a shrimp. The most traumatic part of the movie-maybe- was this train fight and I think Bucky dies in it. I definitely remembered whispering to Sean, "Does he come back as a crime-fighting bald eagle named Rogaine?"

Eventually the Cap'n gets frozen- on accident or not, I don't really remember but he wakes up in the present time, which is in the 2010s. By this time, Peg is sadly old but I think he creepily meets her granddaughter who is also super cute and the movie implies they might go out (barf).
