Avatar- the first one.
Everyone wants to go to Pandora but for different reasons. There's a research lady who wants to learn more about these tall tree-dwelling blue people called the Navi. I thought it was Sigourney Weaver but that's probably not true and I'm possibly mixing it up with Alien. Then I think there's something akin to the big bad US Army that wants to get unobtanium (very subtle James Cameron).
They make this crippled guy, maybe named Jake, go into this machine thing so he can be in a Navi Avatar (like the movie title!). He goes to live among the blue people and basically pulls a Pocahontas where he is John Smith. He falls in love with the chief's daughter- please don't ask for a name- and she teaches him tall blue people aren't bad. They do activities like flying on bird things that they link up to by using their hair (weird), and sometimes they do Fern Gully activities like prancing around nature and having things light up like water or lily pads and having an old lady tell them why a big ass tree is important to the lives of their people. They even have hair sex which is really really weird because that's how they control birds and does that mean they're technically having sex with the birds to control them!?
Eventually, he gets found out and the Army is ready to go destroy the Navi and they have to fight. I think before that, in an extra Pocahontas-y move, the chief almost clubs Jake in the head to punish him for being a traitor but his daughter intervenes. Also not-Sigourney Weaver has an avatar too. Michelle Rodriguez is part of the US Army but maybe gets turned to the good side (in her role she looks intense and is flying a helicopter). I think in the end, Jake is almost dead but they resurrect him using blue-people magic and he gets reincarnated in an avatar. Not- Sigourney Weaver gets reincarnated as well.
